I had the privilege of directing the Commonwealth Youth Circus’ final performance which toured across Scotland as part of the Queen’s Baton Relay celebrations for Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games.
CYC brought together 18 young people from Scotland and across the commonwealth. This talented group aged between 13 and 24 trained for 9 months in a variety of circus specialisms including trapeze, rope, acrobatics and object manipulation in addition to parkour and dance.
The performance was designed and directed by myself with assistance from Rob Thorburn and Chris Grant. Entitled ‘Thresholds’ the show was devised in response to the young peoples year of training together and notions of what home can be. This large scale outdoor work toured to Elgin, Stornoway, Stirling, Dingwall, Greenock, Paisley and Glasgow before finishing it’s run at the renowned Edinburgh Mela festival.
